About Pennywise

The dancing clown from Stephan King's Novel It and its further TV and Film adaption still scare children. The terrifying laugh and menacing eyes can hunt the dreams of the viewers for many days. Being one of the oldest entities, this villain had several powers including shapeshifting, manipulating reality, mind reading, and going unnoticed by adults, which altogether makes him unbeatable. The character is played by 3 actors till 2023 including Tim Curry in the 1990 TV adaptation of the book, Liliput in the 1998 TV adaptation of the book and the final one is Bill Skarsgard in the Film adaptation of the book.

Not Really a Clown?
Usually, Pennywise is presumed to be an evil clown. He is even known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. However, this character is not really a clown. According to the book, it is actually an evil shapeshifting entity. The clown's appearance is simply what the terrified children of Derry, Maine, see when the character appears. It is said that 'It' will take on the form of whatever it is that people fear the most.
The Entity is Older Than the Universe
It may sound bizarre or be hard to digest, but Pennywise is older than the Universe. The facts have been elaborated in the books clearly that Pennywise came into existence before the occurrence of The Big Bang. It is said that he went into a state of hibernation when he landed on Earth. When his hibernation ended, he was in 18th-century America. He needed human lives to sustain himself during the period of hibernation. He was the one responsible for the disappearance of 300 settlers in Derry, Maine.

The first to play the part of Pennywise was Tim Curry. He was seen as the character in the 1990 television adaptation of the book. In 1998, the TV adaption of the book, Lilliput took on the part. And in the newest and only film adaptation, the character is played by Bill Skarsgard. With his appearance as Pennywise in two parts of the film Skarsgard has become the only person to have played Pennywise in two separate productions.

Pennywise seem to have many superpowers, among them we have noticed him using his shapeshifting ability the most. He takes the form of anything that a child fears. One of his powers includes mind reading, and not only can he read minds but also make his victims see whatever he wants. Controlling the minds of his victim gives him the leverage to manipulate them into doing what he wants. Some of his other superpowers include creating fake smells and sounds to puzzle his victims. He can kill plants, just with his touch. In addition, he can also control the weather.

Every entity in this world has weaknesses, as it is said what comes will go one day. Pennywise also has weaknesses and anyone who wants to overcome him needs to know these. His two weaknesses include courage and heart. In the book, movie, and tv adaptions, the characters who have survived this entity have shown both of these traits.
His Arch-Enemy is a Turtle
A Turtle named Maturin is another character from another of Stephen King's books. He is noted to be the arch-enemy of Pennywise. The turtle is the overarching protagonist of The Dark Tower series.
According to the director Dauberman of the film adaptation, "Maturin is actually what we call the root that Mike takes from the Native Americans as part of his journey to help guide his path on how to ultimately defeat Pennywise." He also added that Maturin is still there in the movie. It's just not personified by a giant turtle.
Is Pennywise actually dead
According to some of the sightings of Pennywise in Stephen King's novel, Pennywise is still alive and has just gone into hibernation. We did see 'The Losers Club' shooting him in the head in the first part of the film adaptation before the entity disappeared down a hole in the ground, however, it came back to haunt their lives.
In the second part of the film, we saw the losers club confronting the entity after overcoming their fears and telling it how they aren't afraid of it anymore. It causes the entity to shrink smaller in size. Finally, the viewers saw Mike ripping the heart out of the clown and crushing it with his bare hands along with the other losers.
However, is the evil clown gone for good? Or could it be only wanted It wanted to show them.
