- From her childhood, she was not Russian, neither her name was Catherine. She was a German prince' elder daughter and her name was Sophie. But when Czarina Elizabeth invited her to Russia, she liked her and wanted her became the bride of her nephew Peter. Due to this marriage, her name changed to Catherine and was converted to Orthodox Christianity.
- In St. Petersburg's Winter Palace she made one of the world's most beautiful art collections and now that collection is placed in Hermitage Museum.
- After she married Peter III, it was said that their marriage was not going well and they both have the extramarital affairs. On October 1, 1754, she gave birth to a son named Paul but there were some rumors that Peter was not his father she got that baby by her extramarital affair but some believe that she just doesn't wanted to give credit to the Peter that he is Paul's father, but Peter and Paul have some similarities which was denying the fact.
- She was the first longest ruling 'Empress of Russia' and served from 1762 to 1796.
- Under her rule, her country became one of the powerful places. She made many changes for putting her country on top. Her husband Peter III issued the 'Manifesto on Freedom of the Nobility' which was confirmed by her also in the classical style she made many mansions.
- In 1764, the first women education institute the 'Smolny Institute' in St Petersburg was founded by her. That time was called as Catherine Era and Golden Age of the Russian Empire.
