About Akbar
Akbar was a Mughal emperor who was also called Akbar the Great. He was the third emperor of the Mughal empire. He was a strong and successful ruler and had a large portion of the Indian subcontinent under his governance. Though he was a Muslim but respected every religion. He started a program named "Din-i-illahi" to make sure about the religious unity in his empire. After a long and influential rule, he died in 1605 and was buried in Sikandra, Agra.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Akbar

  • He never studied in his whole life as at the age of 13 he had to look after the all Mughal empire after the death of his father.
  • He was a disciplined person and he used to sleep only 4.5 hours a day including 3 hours at midnight and 1.5 hours in a day. He never wanted to waste his time sleeping and want to spend most of the time working.
  • He was a lover of animal and has many pets in his kingdom he has around 1000 cheetahs as his pets, a dog and so on. The name of his favorite cheetah was Madan Kali who was announced with drums before he comes and also Akbar feed him with his hands. His dog pet name was Mahuwa.
  • He believed that in any empire intelligence is the most important thing even more important than gold. So he also has 9 gems in his Darbar who are Birbal, Tansen, Todar Mal, Abul Fazl, Raja Man Singh, Fakir Aziao-Din, Mulla Do-Piyaza, Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak and Abdul Rahim Khan-I-Khana.
  • He was a great hunter and used to hunt alone. He was so much perfect at hunting that he killed a Tiger with a sword.
  • Along with being a great king, he was also a social person and he was against child marriage. He was also against the people who did not let the widows marry again.
  • In his palace, there was a place which is only for his ladies called 'Haram' and no men were allowed to go there. He has official 300 wives and 5000 concubines. In starting he married different women to increase his empire. Some of them are old women and some of them are young. Later he believes that a person should be married once and if he has no child then he should marry to another one.
  • Bairam Khan was his guardian and he helped Akbar to win many fights. When Akbar turned 18 and became legal king then he dismissed Bairam Khan and told him to go to the holy Mecca pilgrimage. But Bairam Khan became a rebel and went against the Emperor but Akbar forgave him.
  • He was very open-minded towards all religions and he was the one who discarded the law of collecting tax from the Hindu people whenever they go to their holy places.
  • He loves the great architectural structures and he has erected many architectural structures which become the heritage of the Mughal empire. Some of his masterpieces made by him are Fatehpur Sikri, Lahore Palace, Buland Darwaza, Agra Fort, and so on.
  • In history, one of his wife's names is mentioned as Mariam-uz-Zamani and according to a few sources, her name is Harka Bai or Jodha Bai but there is no proper proof that this is her real name.
