About Srebarna Nature Reserve
Srebarna Nature Reserve is a national park located in Bulgaria. It is located just two kilometers away from the Danube while 18 kilometers away from Silistra. The park was founded in the year 1948. It is spread in an area of 638 hectares. The park was included in the list of World Heritage Sites in the year 1983. It is an important stoppage area on the Via Pontica which is a migration route used by the birds to travel between Europe and Africa.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Srebarna Nature Reserve
- The park consisted of Lake Srebarna which provides water and wetland area which is preferred by numerous migrating birds to nest and various endangered species of the birds.

- The lake is associated with numerous legends including one of a Srebrist named Khan. He died in an unequal battle with the Pechenegs in the neighboring area. Also, it is said that the lake got its name due to silvery reflections on its surface at the time of full moonlight.
- Also, there is a museum located at the site which displays a collection of stuffed species belonging to the reserve.

- The park is popular for numerous birds particularly Dalmatian pelican, night heron, etc.

- In addition to birds, the park is also home to 39 different types of mammals, 10 fish species, and 21 types of reptiles and amphibians. Also, about 139 plant species are found in the park out of which 11 are in the state of extinction.
