About Rainforests of the Atsinanana

Rainforests of the Atsinanana is a group of six national parks located eastern part of Madagascar. It covers an area of over 479k hectares. It includes Zahamena National Park, Andringitra National Park, Marojejy National Park, Andohahela National Park, Ranomafana National Park, and Masoala National Park. It was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2007 under the category natural. The reserve has a unique biodiversity and is home to various rare species.

The rainforests are home to a many endangered species including lemurs and other primates. The illegal logging in the forest causing a threat to the Lemur who is already in the state of extinction due to loss of home.
Also, there is lemur hunting for bushmeat due to which lemur are in a threat of disappearance.
Most of its part is conjoined with steeper terrain along the mountains of Madagascar. It is the fourth largest island in the world.
There are several incidents of illegal poaching despite protective measures. Sometimes illegal rosewood logging rates climb to 200 to 300 m3 per day in Masoala. Rosewood is illegally imported to China despite the fact the export of rosewood is completely banned.
The rainforest has a number of springs some of them are hot.
