The Ancient City of Damascus is an older part of the city of Damascus. It covers an area of 86.12 hectares. The city owns historical monuments of many cultures including Roman, Hellenistic, Islamic, and Byzantine as a result of changing ruling powers in the city. It was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 and was included in the list of World Heritage in Danger in June of 2013 due to a threat of the Syrian Civil War.
