About Vijayalaya Choleeswaram
Vijayalaya Choleeswaram is a temple located in Narthamalai panchayat town of Pudukottai district in the Tamil Nadu state. The temple is constructed in rock cut architecture and Dravida style. It was built by Mutharaiyar dynasty kings in the ninth century, however, later on it was developed by Cholas. The temple contains two rock-cut caves. One of the caves have twelve life-size sculptures of Lord Vishnu despite the fact that the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a protected monument and is maintained and administered by Archaeological Survey of India. The temple is temporarily closed but it is expected that it will open shortly.

Originally, it had eight shrines, two of them are only ruins while six are still existing. Each shrines has semi-spherical top and four pillared Madapa in front.
