Vijayalaya Choleeswaram History, Travel Information, Hotels, Facts And More

Vijayalaya Choleeswaram is a temple located in Narthamalai panchayat town of Pudukottai district in the Tamil Nadu state. The temple is constructed in rock cut architecture and Dravida style. It was built by Mutharaiyar dynasty kings in the ninth century, however, later on it was developed by Cholas. The temple contains two rock-cut caves. One of the caves have twelve life-size sculptures of Lord Vishnu despite the fact that the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a protected monument and is maintained and administered by Archaeological Survey of India. The temple is temporarily closed but it is expected that it will open shortly.

The temple is located close to other popular temples like Akilandeswari Jambukeswar Temple, Sivan Koil, Maduraiveeran Temple so you can easily arrive the temple if you are at these temples. If you are going there by bus then you can take a bus to any of the nearby bus stand like Annavasal bus stand, Kadambarayanpatti Bus Stop, Thiruvappur Bus Stop, Pudukottai, and Bus stand Round about. After reaching these bus stand you can take any local transport available to reach the temple comfortably.
Train
If you prefer a train journey then you have to leave you train at either at Padukkottai station, Vellanur station, Narthamalai, Tirumayam, Keeranur, Namanasamudram, or Kulathur stations. After reaching there, grab a taxi or any other local means of transport to arrive the temple.

Nearby Airports to the location are Tiruchirappalli International Airport and Tiruchirapalli Airport Integrated Terminal. When you unboard your flight, you can find a taxi outside the gate of airport and reach the location without difficulty.
