About Mimaland
Mimaland is a now-closed water theme park situated in Selangor, Malaysia. It was opened in 1975 and was the first theme park in Malaysia. It was permanently shut down after the property was damaged by a landslide in May 1994. However, the remains of the theme park and the entrance gate could be witnessed today. It was made on the 300 acres of the hilly area near Kuala Lumpur. The park was the property of Mimaland Berhad who was a part of Magnum Group of Companies. It featured 24 motels, 5 chalets, and a swimming pool. The prehistoric animal park containing dinosaur models also grabbed the attention of the visitors.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Mimaland

  • An accident on the giant slide that took place in January 1993 in which a 27-year-old Singaporean was killed led to the temporary closure of the park leaving the visitors in shock.
  • It was reopened after some time, but was permanently closed after a landslide in May 1994. The management was sued due to a security control issue in the park and court-ordered to close the operations in the park.
  • Though the park was closed two decades before still, many people visit the place to find thrilling adventure in the abundant place as told by a security guard named Hamkah Kokoh.
  • There are some stories of paranormal activities at the place. One of which was with a young man when the park was still running. He was rowing a boat in the lake when the boat capsized with the strong waves. He managed to swim to the shore but fell ill afterward and passed away a few days later. Though the story is not verified.
  • There is also some proof of wild animals like a tiger at the place so it is not advised to trespass on this property.
  • According to some people, the land was occupied by "orang bunian." Some people claim that they have seen a woman walking alone in the abandoned park.
  • It is private property and also has a watchman to keep the people away from the property. But still many people come here at night times with parangs to discover if the place is haunted.
