About Chhatbir Zoo
It is a zoo located in Chhat Village of Zirakpur, Punjab. It is just twenty kilometers away from the capital city, Chandigarh. The zoo was opened in the year 1977 and was formerly known as Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park. The zoo offers a large variety of flora and fauna with a calm atmosphere which make you feel blessed. It is the largest zoo in Punjab with over 400 birds, 369 mammals and 20 reptiles. The trip to this zoo is entertaining as well as educational. The zoo remains open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from Tuesday to Sunday and it remains closed on Monday and National holidays.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Chhatbir Zoo
- If you are planning a visit to the zoo, then please note that the use of private vehicles, tobacco, liquor, and plastic bags is strictly prohibited in the zoo. The visitors are not allowed to feed the animals in the zoo.
- The zoo opens for the visitors at nine in the morning and closes at five in the evening except on Monday and public holidays.
- The entry fee for an adult is 80 INR but if you want to take a camera than you have to pay Rupees 150 for the camera while the charges are 250 INR for a video camera. If you want to visit Lion safari than you have to pay an extra 75 INR per person. The authorities also provide an opportunity to buy the ticket online on the official website of the zoo.

- The authorities has also introduced Student Zoo Club program which includes various educational activities including both indoor and outdoor.
