Some Lesser Known Facts About Whaley House
- The land on which the Whaley House is built was once the site of an infamous execution, of the notorious thief Yankee Jim Robinson. Despite this, Thomas Whaley bought the land in the year 1855. The family moved into the 2 storey house in the year 1857.

- Today, the Whaley house functions as a museum and offers guided tours of the premises. The museum was opened in the year 1960. SOHO has been in the process of restoring the house to its appearance during the period of 1868-72, when there were also present the general store, courtroom, and theater, along with the private quarters.

- It is said that the house itself remains haunted. This could be associated with the public execution of Jim Robinson or the unfortunate series of events that took place after the Whaley family moved in. Soon after they moved in, the couple lost their 18-monthj-old baby boy to scarlet fever. And not long after that, a suspicious fire broke out that destroyed most of the estate.

- After a short stay in California, the family moved back into their home and for a while things went back to normal. But this happy life would not go on forever. In the year 1871, Anna Whaley, Thomas Whaley's wife was held on gunpoint by a bunch of armed men who stole the courtroom papers, while Thomas was away. This was quite a traumatic event for the family.

- Not long after this incident, the younger of the two surviving daughters of the couple, Violet Whaley shot herself in the chest. Her failed marriage is considered to be the cause of her suicide. With such a history of misfortune and trauma, it isn?t difficult to imagine the impact this had on the locals and eventually, their storytelling.

- The house is haunted by members of the Whaley family. People have reported disembodied laughter of a baby and hearing tiny footsteps as if a toddler was waddling. Some even say they've spotted a remorseful young woman, who is assumed to be violet, on the 2nd floor of the house. She wears a melancholy expression and sits and mourns in a corner.
