About The R.S. McLaughlin Estate National Historic Site and Heritage Garden
The Parkwood Estate is now a museum located in Oshawa, Ontario. It used to the home of Samuel McLaughlin and his family from 1917 to 1972. It was designed by a popular architectural firm of the time named Darling and Pearson. It was declared as the National Historic Site of Canada in the year 1989. It could be visited from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm daily in summers while in winters the opening timings are 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

- It is a huge mansion having 55 rooms with a covered area of about 15000 square feet. The inside view of the estate is also mind-blowing decorated with carved wood and plaster architectural finishes. It also has hidden panels and stairways. You can also see books, housewares, artwork, trophies, and photographs of the resident family.
- The estate served as a filming location for numerous films and television series including X-Men, Warehouse 13, Trump Unauthorized, Shadowhunters among others.
- The resident family was a great admirer of horticulture and natural beauty that's why the estate has numerous gardens. They had employed 24 gardeners and have eleven greenhouses. The visit to the estate is incomplete without having a look at the beautiful garden. You can still see orchids, palms, and tropical plants in the greenhouses. Also, there is a Japanese Garden and a Greenhouse Tea Room.
- The artifacts present in the mansion are over 100 years old belonged to the McLaughlin family. The management takes extensive care of these things so that they remain in the form that it was when the family lived there.
