About Forest Research Institute
The Forest Research Institute (FRI) is a renowned institution for forestry research in India. Established in 1906, this architectural marvel is a blend of Greek and Roman styles. The sprawling campus of FRI houses the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy and six Indian Forest Museums. Visitors can explore the various sections of the institute and learn about the rich flora and fauna of the region. The museum showcases the history and development of forestry in India, making it a fascinating place for nature enthusiasts. It covers an area of over 450 hectares and is the biggest forest-based training institute in India. The museum could be visited between 9:00 am to 5:30 pm from Monday to Friday and it remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. A nominal ticket price of 15 per person is charged but you have extra 50 rupees if you want a guide for the visit.

Forest Research Institute is located at an accessible location on Dehradun-Chakrata road close to clock tower, Dehradun. You can access the site without any difficulty. Here are some transport options available.

You can reach there with a local bus going to Prem Nagar, Garhi Cantt, or Ballupur Chowk. These buses will drop you very close to the location from where you can buy tickets and access the whole institution.
