About Tugu Tani
Tugu Tani is a monument situated in Central Jakarta of Indonesia. It is a bronze statue of a peasant youth with a rifle on his shoulder wearing a traditional conical cap alongside his mother offering him a dish of rice. The monument was built by architects Matvey Manizer and Ossip Manizer. The inauguration of the statue was done in 1963 You can visit the monument any time as it remains open 24 hours of the day.
How To Reach Tugu Tani
It is easy to reach the monument using the bus of route number 1P, JAK10B. Your bus will leave to the bus stations like Tugu Tani 2, Aryaduta Jakarta, Gambir 2, and Sebrang MNC Center which is about 5 or 6-minute walking distance away from the monument. If you get off at Kanisius, Panti Perwira, or Balai Kota 1 bus stations they are also 8 to 10-minute walk distance away from the destination. Going there by train is also a good option and the nearby train station is Gondangdia just 9 minutes walk away. If you are going there via a metro then you have to get off at Bundaran HI metro station.

- The sculpture is inspired by folklore in West Java about a mother and a son. The mother supported her son to win the war and also gave him some rice for his journey.
- An important fact you must know that the statue was built in the Soviet Union and was brought here by ship.
- The place where the monument is situated is an important place in the political history of the country. At this intersection of Menteng and Prapatan Street, several events relating to the August 1945 revolution took place.
- In a recent event, there was a car crash near the monument on January 22, 2012. Nine people standing on the pedestrian path were killed in the accident. The suspect was said to be drunk was driving home from Hotel Borobudur.
- The statue is a subject of controversy as armed peasants are sometimes called a symbol of communism.
- The monument is surrounded by a beautiful garden attracting several visitors to the place.
