About India Gate

It is a war memorial made to honor India soldiers and was founded in February 1931. Edwin Lutyens was the architect who designed the structure.

Indians must be proud of the fact that it is the largest war memorial of the world which was made in the 21st century.
If you visited the place who have noticed some names inscribed on the walls. These were the Indian soldiers who gave their lives in the Afghan Wars and World War I.
It resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
The Amar Jawan Jyoti was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on January 26, 1972. The jyoti burns day and night to pay respect to the soldiers who sacrifice their lives in India-Pakistan War.
It was made by taking inspiration from the Mahabalipuram pavilion of the 18th century. Until 1947, it also had statue of King George V.
You can estimate about the British impact with the inscription of sun in the cornices of India Gate. Dates MCMXIV (1914 left) and MCMXIX (1919 right) is inscribed on both sides of the word "India."
Indian Flag is hosted at the place on Republic Day before starting celebrations.
