About Statue of Unity
It is a colossal statue of Indian independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It was opened for general public in October 2018 and cost about 2989 crore Indian National Rupees.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Statue of Unity
- It is the tallest statue in the world about 600 feet tall. You will be amazed to know that it is four times taller than the Statue of Liberty.
- While constructing the statue it took about 2,500,000 cubic feet of concrete, 18500 tons of reinforced steel rods, and 5700 tons of steel structure. About 12000 bronze panels were used which weighs about 1700 tons to cover the statue.
- If you visit the place, you can climb up to the chest of the statue which also has a viewing gallery and is about 500 feet above the ground.
- To accomplish the project the government of Gujarat had to relocate about 185 families and compensate them about 1200 acres of land so that site can be used for the statue.
- Over 2000 Indian workers and a number of laborers from China worked to complete the construction works.
