About Roman Monuments
It is a group of important sites located in Trier, Germany. The site has nine locations consisting of Barbara Baths, Porta Nigra, Amphitheatre, Igel Column, Moselle Bridge, Church of Our Lady, Imperial Baths, Cathedral, and Aula Palatina. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1986. The site preserves various monuments, bridges, fortified walls, and also artworks of potter, moneyers, and glassworkers. The city is located alongside the Moselle River. You can easily arrive at the Cathedral of St. Peter and the Church of Our Lady in Trier in the 26 minutes drive from Trier-Fahren Airport. While from Porta Nigra it is just a 16-minute walking distance.

  • Trier is one of the oldest cities in Germany. It was a Roman colony in the first century AD. That's why monuments located here belong to the first or second century.
  • The Cathedral of St.Peter is the ancient church in Germany which was founded by Emperor Constantine, Very few of us know that the cathedral was demolished by the Franks and was reconstructedt. It was again destroyed by the Vikings in 882 and a century later in 993. Now the building belongs to the Romanesque style.
  • The Church of our Lady which is included in the site is the earliest Gothic Church throughout Germany. It was made after replacing the original Roman double church. Though there is no exact date that when the church was constructed but it is estimated that its construction started in 1227 and completed in 1243.
