Some Lesser Known Facts About The Stanley Hotel
- Built-in the year 1909, the Stanley Hotel is situated in Estes Park, in the magnificent mountain glory of Colorado. It is famous for its historical location, the development of the area, Stephen King, and its supposed haunting as well. Its impressive Georgian architecture is a treat to the eyes.

- Freelan Oscar Stanley built the hotel, he and his identical twin brothers were known to be entrepreneurs from a young age. Their accomplishments include selling maple syrup, making concert-quality violins, and running a company specializing in photographic dry plates (which they sold to Kodak), and designing the Stanley Steamer automobile.

- A concert hall was built to host guests and entertainers but essentially it as a gift to his wife Flora, who played the piano. It was mostly in disuse as the estate lacked central heating and so, it was more of a seasonal hotel which closed down every winter.

- The Stanley Hotel has hosted many distinguished people. Some of them are President Theodore Roosevelt, John Philip Souza, Margaret Brown, Stephen King, etc.

- Reports of haunting at the hotel go back to 1911! That makes it one of the most haunted hotels in the States. There are almost as much as 8 haunted rooms in the building. Some of these entities have been given names like Elizabeth Wilson the maid, Lucy the young girl, etc.

- The hotel hosts ghost tours and one may check-in into one of the haunted rooms if one may dare, especially room 401 and 217. Some of the incidents reported by the guests include piano playing by it-self, strange apparitions in portraits and photographs, unseen noisy children running up and down the halls, moving nightstands, and shadowy figures.

- The ghost of Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson is the one considered responsible for tampering with the guest?s clothing. Clothes are often found neatly folded and placed (that ensures a 5 star service). The story goes that in the year, 1911 she entered room 217 with a lit candle. A gas leak caused an explosion and she fell through the floor to the dining room below. She survived with broken ankles and other injuries; she was well taken care of by the Stanleys after the accident and spent the rest of her working life at the hotel.
