The Parador De Jaen sits atop the city, in Santa Catalina Hill. A "parador" in spanish is any luxury hotel, usually, a historic building/monument turned into one. It lies in the Andulacia region. It has a complete view over the valley.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Parador De Jaen
- Parador De Jaen was originally a fortress in the 8th century, it was remodelled around the 17th century and later during the 19th century, the forces of Napolean built a gunpowder store, stables, hospital, offices, kitchen, and artillery platform.

- Its name comes from the Roman name "Villa Gaiena" (Villa of Gaius). It was called "Jayyān" during the time of Al-Andalus. In Roman etymology, it is known as "Aurgi". Similar names such as avringi, oringi, are also identified as referring to the same place.

- Tales of the 18th-century Arab fortress being haunted are well-known by the boarders. Guests have often said to have heard a woman crying and complained about waking up in the dead of the night with a strange knocking on their door.
- Jaen has a scenic road leading upto the parador. With the charming countryside of Andalusia and the view from atop the parador, it is a treat to the eyes. The balconies to the bedrooms offer a view of the surrounding plains including the Gualdaquivir river, the Sierra Morena hills and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

- Along with the "crying woman", it is beleived that another spirit haunts the site; a prisoner who died of hunger while locked up in the fortress. For unknown reasons, he is nicknamed as "the terrible lizard".

- It is a restored castle on a hill overlooking the ancient city of Jaen, its structure has high, arched ceilings, wooden beams and tiled floors feature in the majestic medieval style stone.

- The modern building has 8 single rooms, 6 double rooms and 31 twin rooms for its guests. A team of paranormal investigators were called in the late 1980s to investigate certain rooms for signs/evidence of paranormal incidents.
- On the top of the hill there is a monumental cross that summons the cross that Ferdinand III had erected. At the foot of the cross is the "Sonnet to the Cross" by the poet Almendros Aguilar engraved in rock.
