In the central town of Nevada is the surprisingly opulent Mizpah hotel. Built in 1907, it is well-known for its haunting and a fair share of ghosts. The Mitzpah shut its doors in 1999 and not until 2011, was it renovated and open to the public again. The infamous "lady in red" is one of its notable guests and biggest attraction and source of speculation for believers and fans of the paranormal
Some Lesser Known Facts About Mizpah Hotel
- The Mitzpah was constructed in the year 1907 and held the title for being the tallest building in Nevada (along with the Belvada building) until the year 1927.
- It was named after the Mitzpah mine and was designed by George E. Holesworth.
- Even after its renovation, the Mitzpah?s glass stained windows, elevators, and most of the lobby?s furnishings are still preserved originals from 1908.
- It has a reputation for being one of the most haunted hotels in the region. The story goes that a Senator died of a heart attack before his final election and his body was hidden in a bathtub full of ice in one of the suites at the hotel until his successor could be elected.
- Another entity, perhaps the more infamous, is that of 20s era prostitute, strangled to death by a jealous lover. The hotel doesn?t deny these stories but on the contrary, uses it to its advantage. A book is placed at the check-in where guests are encouraged to write down about their encounters with the lady in red. People have reported such encounters, where a mysterious trail of pearls, show up in the hallway.
- Apparitions, which are speculated to be the various miners of the past, have been reported to be seen. Their appearance is also frequent at the hotel.
- The new building today offers 47 rooms for accommodation, a well-equipped bar and two restaurants.
