A private club on Jekyll Island, Georgia, the estate has had many possessors and rich history. One of the factors being, it's alleged haunting. From being used as a club, a state park, an annex to playing a role in the Federal reserve, the sight has witnessed change and development and some tragic events along the way. The island today offers a thousand acres of maritime forest to explore along with its sand dunes and marshes.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Jekyll Island Club
- Built-in the year 1888, the club members were of the most influential and wealthy class, namely the Morgans, Rockefellers, and Vanderbilts. The founder of Georgia named the Island after Sir Joseph Jekyll, a rich British man who had invested in the newfound colony.

- It is reported that at a point in time, the members of the club amounted to about one-sixth of the world's wealth. With such influence and wealth, it is pondered upon consequential decisions were made within the confines of the state.

- In the year 1915, the estate was on the line for the first-ever transcontinental call in the United States. It was also the location for private meetings to outline and discuss plans for what would later be the Federal Reserve System.

- It is decreed as a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior. It began when Newton Finney and his brother-in-law, John Eugene DuBignon, decided to create a secluded hunting club for the era's prosperous businessmen.
- It is built in the beautiful Queen Anne style architecture, designed by the renowned architect, Charles A. Alexander.

- The resort would suffer the great depression, and during WW II, a loss of male staff that were to enlist in the military and it became impossible to keep the club running. It shut down in the year 1942 but was later saved with a sale to the State of Georgia in 1947.

- It was now turned into a public resort but was unsuccessful in being a profitable resource, which resulted in the business shutting down in 1971. Sitting with closed doors, the estate was renovated in the year 1985 now operating under the name Jekyll Island Club Hotel.

- The hotel has some friendly apparitions. It is said that JP Morgan, a famous wealthy American banker, used to smoke cigars at 5 am in the annex. Some have experienced the presence of an "entity" in the annex and unexplained cigar smell. Others claim that Samuel Spencer, a railroad executive still likes to visit his favorite suite at the hotel.
