She was engaged to a British officer who died before their wedding. The lady was interested in communicating with other side of life. She met Eva Mountstephen, a spiritualist from Lucknow at the hotel. At the time, Mountstephen went to Lucknow for an urgent business work, Garnett-Orme was found dead in her room. Pigments of prussic acid was found in her body. The more amazing thing was that the doctor who performed autopsy was also found dead with strychnine poisoning.
