Situated just off the historic route 66, is the hotel Monte Vista in Arizona. Surrounded by mountains and canyon countries, it is a fun, historic place to explore. It is also sometimes referred to as "Monte V". It was started as a publicly held property and later sold to a private investor in the 60 s. It has a long history and is a much-celebrated site, a symbol of the American West. It is also chiefly known to be haunted.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Hotel Monte Vista
- Built-in the year 1927, Monte V has originally named the Community hotel, honoring the people that contributed to its formation. The name "Monte Vista" was later selected as the best pick, suggested by a 12-year-old contest winner!

- The funds collected for its construction are estimated to be about $200,000. It offers 73 rooms for its guests and is an iconic bar and entertainment venue.

- Monte V has hosted a number of distinguished guests. Some of these include John Wayne, Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Anthony Hopkins, Esther Williams, and Barbara Stanwyck. The 1942 classic romantic-drama movie "Casablanca" was shot in a room, here at the Monte V.

- After the year 1920, the town of Flagstaff received traffic of tourists but the town didn't have suitable accommodation for such a crowd, that is when V.M Slipher, spearheaded the campaign and the Monte V came to be, built completely by public taxes. The hotel would soon rise up to its popularity.

- Mary Costigan, the first American woman to host a live radio show, would boost the hotel's popularity by hosting her 3-hour show from the hotel in room no 105.

- Along with its charm and busy history, the hotel is also a haunted site. The legend goes that 3 men, after robbing a bank nearby the hotel decided to celebrate their successful robbery at the Vista. One of these men was shot while escaping from the bank. Clearly, they underestimated the wounds he received for he later died at the bar. People claim that the bandit still lingers behind. A manager claimed to hear a distinct voice, not belonging to anyone, say "hello" each day he opened the bar.

- The hotel has a no-pet policy in certain haunted rooms, especially dogs as they sense a presence and tear at the door or pull the room apart and bark at nothing. People have also reported a cowboy ghost and a woman that appears and disappears for short intervals.

- In a room called the Gary Cooper room, two women that participated in the solicitation were murdered and thrown out the window. They have often been sighted at the pool and near the lounge. Some claim that these are the ghosts that try and choke men to death in their sleep.
