Brijraj Bhawan is a luxurious hotel located in Kota city of Rajasthan. It was constructed in 1830 as the residence of the royal family. Still, half of the palace is occupied by Maharao of Kotah, Brijraj Singh while remaining is used for the hotel. It is just four kilometers away from the Seven Wonders Park and Kota railway station, and six kilometers from Kotah Garh City Palace museum. Thus making it an accessible location, and ideal for the stay. They offer elegant living in a palace alongside rooms furnished with antiques.

  • The hotel is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a British officer. According to the legend, he was killed in 1857. In the 1857 revolt, the palace was a place of residence of Major Charles Burton and his family. A group of soldiers attacked the palace and killed the officer and his children. All of them were buried in the central hall of the palace, It is believed that his restless soul still haunts the palace.
  • Not only by locals and passerby his existence is also felt by the former Maharani of Kota. According to reports, she saw Major Burton in her study room as an aged man walking with a stick. There is a feeling of uneasiness in the central hall and some other particular areas of the palace which is felt by many guests.
  • He is a harmless ghost for the residents but it is said that he slaps the guards whoever he finds napping at the time of duty so that there would be no other tragedy in the palace. Also, the guards claimed that they heard a scolding while there was no one.
  • The guests are advised to avoid a walk in the palace garden or terrace at nighttime even though the ghost is harmless.
