About Jaisalmer Fort
Jaisalmer Fort is one of the living forts across the world located in Rajasthan, India. It is actually situated in the Jaisalmer city with the history of 800 years. The second oldest fort in the state was built in 1156 by the Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal. The site is open to public and a protected monument controlled by Jaisalmer state.

- It is one of a small number of living forts throughout the world as around one-fourth of the city?s population live in the fort.
- In 1293 or 1294, King Jaisal blockaded by a Mughal emperor Alauddin Khalji and at the end of the struggle male warriors of the Rajputana army faced heavy fatality and the women committed Jauhar. After that, the fort left abandoned until it was re-occupied by some surviving people of Jaisal?s kingdom.
- In 2013, the ancient site certified as a world heritage site by UNESCO as a part of the hill forts of Rajasthan.
