About Bhangarh Fort
Bhangarh Fort is an old fort located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, India. The fort was built in 1573 by Raja Bhagwan Das with stones and Bricks. It is situated at the border of the Sariska reserve in the hills of the Aravali range. It is on the foot of the hills. It is open for a public visit throughout the week between ten in the morning to five in the evening. If you are visiting the place from Delhi, it is 235 kilometers away while 88.2 kilometers from the Jaipur International Airport. Thana Ghazi is the nearest location which is just 32 kilometers from your destination. Though it is a popular tourist destination the fort is popular for being haunted.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Bhangarh Fort

  • There are two stories prevalent in relation to Bhangarh fort. One was of saint Baba Balak Nath who used to live in the fort area. He had ordered that no house should be built within the premises of the fort which is taller than the fort itself. And if the shadow of the house fell on the fort, it would result in the destruction of the fort town. But a small stone hut called Tantrik ki chhatri was taller than the fort and caused the destruction of the fort.

  • Another popular story was of Ratnavati and a Tantrik (wizard). Ratnavati was the beautiful daughter of Chatr Singh. A tantric who used to practice black magic had an evil eye on the princess. He gave a magical potion to Ratnavati who was already aware of his intention threw the bottle. The bottle fell on a large rock which rolled on the Tatrik and crushed him to death. But before dying the Patrik cursed Ratnavati, her family, and the village. His curse came true next year and Ratnavati and most of the villagers died in a battle which was fought between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh. According to the curse, the village and fort were abundant and could not get a life again. It is believed that the fort is haunted by the ghost of those who used to live in the fort including the ghost of Ratnavati.
