About Wurzburg

It is a city located in the German state of Bavaria. It is just 120 kilometers away from Frankfurt am Main. It is situated on the bank of Main. It falls under the administrative seat of Lower Franconia. It spread in an area of over 87-kilometer square having a population of about 127394 according to the 2019 census, Christian Schuchardt is currently holding the position of Mayor of the city.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Wurzburg

The city is known for the Würzburg witch trials. It was one of the largest collective trials in 1626 and 1631. It was done under the rule of Bishop Philip Adolf. It is estimated that between 600 and 900 people were burnt on the allegation of being witches without any valid reason. Any person whom they found suspicious or were unable to explain their innocence was burned.
The place is also popular for the 2016 Würzburg train attack in which four people were injured by a Pakistani man.
According to some reports, the city is also haunted by a dead nun who roams in the halls of Praemonstratenser Abbey. It is said to be a restless spirit of Maria Renata Von Mossau. The nun was alleged of mixing herbs in everyone?s food in order to captivate them. She was beheaded and then burned just three days after her sentence. Some locals have seen her walking down the hallways with a bouquet of roses while picking off the petals.
