Samarra is a city situated in Iraq. It is located in the eastern bank of the Tigris river. The city is just 125 kilometer away from Baghdad. It is spread in an area of 15,058 hectares. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2007. The city was in the "Sunni Triangle" of violence at the time of Iraqi Civil War for the reason it became an endangered site.
