Regensburg is a city located near the Danube, Naab, and Regen rivers. The city is situated in the eastern part of Bavaria and is the fourth-largest city of the state. It is spread in an area of over 80 kilometers square having a population of over 153k people as per the 2019 census. It is one of the top tourist attractions in Germany. Its medieval center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006.

- The city was used for dwelling since Stone Age. There are also remains of an old fort made around 90 AD by Romans existing in the town.
- The city became a center of trade with northern Europe and Venice with the construction of a stone bridge across the Danube between 135 and 1146.
- The town is enriched with historical monuments like towers, patrician houses in the medieval period, churches, and monastic ensembles. It was also one of the centers of the Holy Roman Empire that turned to Protestantism.
- The town is rich in historical events one of which was the First Crusade by Peter the Hermit in 1096. During this, the mob of crusaders led by Peter the Hermit forced the mass for the conversion of the Jews of Regensburg, and those who resisted were killed.
- The town was subject to the Schweinfurt-Regensburg mission due to the existence of a Messerschmitt Bf 109 aircraft factory and an oil refinery during the Second World War. A second attack occurred in 1945 at the time of the Oil Campaign of World War II. Both the targets were destroyed, however, the town suffered a little damage. Though a Romanesque church that was destroyed in the air raid was never rebuilt.
