The village of Belchite was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, but instead of reconstructing it, Francisco Franco forced the inhabitants to move out and build a new village next door. The old town was abandoned, so that the desctucted buildings may stand as a reminder to the power of Nationalism and Army.
