With his most recent digital release, Heeramandi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has the internet in a frenzy. Out of everything that made headlines, Sharmin Segal has received a lot of backlash online over his niece and one of the show's main characters. The actress's performance in the film has now been discussed by the director.

Sharmin, who has long assisted SLB in his motion pictures, made her acting debut in the 2019 picture Malaal. She portrayed Alamzeb in Heeramandi, the matriarch Mallikajaan's (Manisha Koirala) daughter. Although this was expected to be her big screen comeback, the public changed her course in life.

What was the comment made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali regarding Sharmin Segal's portrayal in Heeramandi?

Sharmin and SLB decided not to comment on the actress's defense, despite the fact that numerous show stars did. Conversely, the director of Devdas, in an interview with Hindustan Times, recounted a discussion he had with Segal. He opened about a conversation between him and Sharmin, saying “She kept saying, ‘Mama, I’ll underplay.' I said, ‘Underplay? Are you thinking I’m going to ask you to overplay?”

He further continued, "I know that they (the new generation of actors) love me as much," expressing how fascinating he found her "new energy." I recognize it when they ask me, "Are you happy?" Do you think we should try again? Might we try it again? Are things going well for you? That love is visible in their eyes. That is extremely uncommon.

Manisha Koirala is praised by Sanjay Leela Bhansali for her devotion!

In case you missed it, Manisha was SLB's first leading lady when they collaborated in 1942: A Love Story, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. She was cast in his directorial debut, Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), by the same man who had directed her in songs such as Pyaar Hua Chupke Se and Kuchh Na Kaho. He brought Manisha on board to play Mallikajaan in Heeramandi now, fifteen years later.

SLB praised her commitment, saying, "She sat on the set every time for 7 hours, putting mehendi and then giving two shots. She'd go home, put the mehendi for seven hours again the next day, give two shots again, and then go home. It's unbearable". Right now, Heeramandi is available to stream on Netflix.
