Veteran Politician Prakash Singh Badal Passed Away at 95

Prakash Singh Badal who was a popular name in the politics of Punjab passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in a hospital in Mohali. He was admitted after having breathing problem a week ago. He was a recipient of Padma Vibhushan which is the second-highest civilian award in India. He had a great influence on the people of Punjab.
Early Life
Badal was born in a Jat Sikh family in Abul Khurana, near Malout on 8 December 1927. He was a graduate of the Forman Christian College in Lahore. He joined politics just after the independence and served as Sarpanch of Village Badal in his early political career.
Role in Politics
Badal served as a Chief Minister of Punjab not one or two but five times. First time, he became Chief Minister in 1970 but remained on the post only for one year. He again elected as chief Minister in 1977 and served until 1980. In 1997, once again public of Punjab chose him as the Chief Minister and from the year 2007 to 2017, he remained Chief Minister for two times in row. He was the patron of Shiromani Akali Dal and remained the president of the party from 1995 to 2008, until he was replaced by his son Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Many politicians and celebrities tweeted condolence messages after hearing the news of his death. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolence by saying him a colossal figure of Indian politics.
Also, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot said final goodbye to him with a tweet.
