The Kerala Story is a Hindi film released in theaters on May 5, 2023. The film is based on the story of three girls who were converted into Islam and were forced to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). It is produced by Vipul Amrutial Shah and is rated 3 out of five stars by The Times of India.

Why film is getting media attention?

The makers of the film claims that it is based on true incident and is based on the reports of The Observer Research Foundation which states that about 60 to 70 individuals had joined ISIS from Kerala between 2014 and 2018. It is opposed by Indian National Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) which governed the state since independence. They alleged that the filmmakers are promoting false propaganda of love jihad. Producer Vipul Amrutial Shah responded to the allegations and said he had done four years of research for the film. Also, a complaint was filed by Kerala chief minister that the film is disturbing communal harmony. However, Kerala High Court ruled out that the film is about ISIS and not about a particular religion.

The film is getting high popularity and even Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi talked about the film.
