The 38-year-old Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement with an emotional note on August 24, 2024. He thanked everyone for the support for his successful career.

“As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!” The cricketer announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after two years of his last appearance. He said he is satisfied and feels fulfilment of his sports journey.

Start of the Career


He joined cricket club at the age of 12. His first match was in Vijay Merchant Trophy for Delhi Under-16s in 1999. He played in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Asia Cup and Under-19 World Cup Before making his debut for Indian cricket team against Australia in October 2010. His first test appearance was at Mohali in March 2013 against Australia, where he made a record of fastest century by any batsman.

Achievements


The cricketer made India proud when he became the sixth batsman in the world while first for India for scoring a century before lunch on the first day of a Test Match against Afghanistan in June 2018. Also, he is the first Indian who scored a century in his 100th ODI game. He made a record in his first Test match for scoring the fastest century.
