The practice of eating human flesh is called Cannibalism. Though cannibalism is now come to end due to modernization and development, there are some tribes that still believed to practice it. Let’s discuss some rituals and facts about these groups.

Karowai tribe
Karowai people are natives of southeastern Papua in the South Papua and Highland Papua provinces of Indonesia. Their population count is about 3000. The tribe was unaware of the people of the outside world until the late 1970s stated a report by The Daily Telegraph. The Karowai people are hunter-gatherers who survive by hunting and fishing. The tribe is believed to practice witchcraft. Though there are various claims that the tribe still practices cannibalism the reports say that all these claims are deliberately made in order to promote tourism.

Asmat tribes
Asmat people live in the province of South Papua, Indonesia. The tribe mainly resides on the southwestern coast of the island which borders the Arafura Sea. The place is adjacent to Lorentz National Park. The tribe is popular for its incredible woodcarving traditions. Besides traditions like polygamy, mbai, and papitsj, their culture includes headhunting raids. According to the reports, the skull is used in cooking following the headhunting rituals. This tribe is believed to have killed Michael Rockefeller 1961 who was the fifth son of future vice president Nelson Rockefeller. He went to explore the area of New Guinea region when his boat turned down. Rockefeller swam about 10 miles to shore but was killed by Asmat people after his arrival.

The Sentinelese
Sentinels are indigenous people located on North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal. The tribe has limited contact with outside people. The native is believed to be aggressive and has killed a number of people who tried to approach them. The area was declared a tribal reserve by the Government of India and traveling is prohibited within 5.6 kilometers of the area. Photography is also prohibited. The tribe is accused of killing Indian fishermen Sunder Raj and Pandit Tiwari, whose bodies were found on bamboo stakes facing out to sea. Also, a 26-year-old American missionary named John Allen Chau was killed by the tribe. His body remained unrecovered, despite several attempts made by the Indian government.

These are some tribes that are isolated from the modern world, performing the same rituals as their ancestors thousands of years before. But we have heard some of the incidences of modern society where humans started eating human flesh. It could be because of severe famine where humans are left with no food which leaves one and only option for them to eat others. There are several incidences of cannibalism in European history that can give a spine-chilling scare. Even now there are some traditions that look strange and similar to cannibalism like blood-drinking rituals performed by Megan Fox and her then-boyfriend M G Kelly.
