My Heart Will Go On wasn't supposed to be in the film
My Heart Will Go On is one of the timeless songs in the history of music and adding the special emotions from the movie it has created a special place in the hearts of millions. But did you know, director James Cameron did not want a song performed for the film? He wanted to keep the movie away from too much commercial promotion.
It was the composer, James Horner, who is the actual reason the iconic song was made possible. He hired lyricist Will Jenning to produce a song to fit the script. They got the song recorded by the singer Céline Dion and showed the result to Cameron who agreed to use it as the soundtrack for Titanic.

Céline Dion originally rejected the offer to perform My Heart Will Go On
When composer James Horner reach out to Dion to provide her vocals for the song, she initially refused it. The Quebec beauty didn't find it thrilling. She even expressed the thought that it would prove to be a failure. However, her agent and husband, René Angelil, convinced her to at least give it a try prior to officially rejecting the proposal.
Dion recorded the infamous song in one take. Her vocals along with the composition and writing, the song has made history. The piece blew up worldwide even before the release of the film on 7 December 1997. Céline even got the Oscar and the Golden Globe for best soundtrack for the song.

Actual shipwreck was shown in the Movie
At the beginning of the movie, Brock Lovett and the crew dive into the ocean to uncover the ship from close. Not many are aware that some of the images shown on screen come from the real wreckage of Titanic. James Cameron explored the ship many times while he was preparing to make the blockbuster.

Parallel Ending
Did you know James Cameron actually shot another ending? And disappointing as it may sound, no, it wasn’t anywhere near Jack being saved. At the end of the movie, the viewers see old Rose going back on the deck alone and throwing her much sought-after necklace, The Heart of the Ocean, into the sea, which if you remember, was in the pocket of the over-coat Cal gave her while the ship was sinking. She discovered the necklace only after reaching New York. After throwing the necklace the old Rose returns back to her cabin quietly.
However, in a different ending shoot, when she was about to throw the necklace, Brock Lovett chances upon her and realizes that she has the missing article, they were looking for all along. She tries to bring him around to make him understand that his search was in fact meaningless. She says, "Only life has a price, and every day must count" before tossing "The Heart of the Ocean" into the ocean. Lovett gives up his dreams of wealth and glory in the end and invites Rose’s granddaughter Lizzy to dance, to celebrate the end of his treasure hunt.

A scientific study determined whether or not Jack could have survived
Every movie fan must have once thought about having a parallel ending where Jack didn’t die in the end. An ending where Rose gets to grow old with the love of her life. Thousands of movie fans were not happy with the ending.
Could Jack have gotten onto the raft with Rose and survived? This has been a matter of turbulent debate among fans for 25 years now. A question the director Cameron was never able to escape. In order to settle the debate once and for all, the director himself requested for a scientific study to be performed.
Cameron stated in a conference “We did a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who recreated the raft from the film. We went through tests to see if they could have survived by various methods, and the answer was that there was no way they could have both survived. Only one could have survived.”
For the study, two stuntmen that had similar builds to Leonardo and Kate simulated all probable scenarios. And all the results clearly showed that one of them had to die. James concluded “Jack had to die. It’s like Romeo and Juliet. It's a film about love, sacrifice, and mortality."

There is also a documentary scheduled for 2023. It will show the study's behind-the-scenes, and some of the other secrets behind the famous movie. The documentary is set to release on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its release in theatres.
