The Indian Space Research Organisation has successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 on July 14 at 2:35 pm. It is a lunar exploration mission which would be helpful for Indian scientist to collect information about celestial objects.
ISRO Chairman S Somnath gave a statement to assure the success of this mission "If everything fails, if all the sensors fail, nothing works, still it (Vikram) will make a landing. That's how it has been designed -provided that the propulsion system works well. We have also made sure that if 2 of the engines(in Vikram) don't work this time also, it will still be able to land."
After the failure of Russia's mission Luna25, all the eyes are on India to explore the South polar region of moon which reportedly contains ice crystal which means existence of water on the surface of moon. The information collected by Chandrayaan will be crucial for the world to explore the possibility of life on the moon.
The scientist have taken utmost care this time after the crash of Chandrayaan-2 on 6 September 2019 due to software glitch. Chandrayaan-2 consist of a lander and a rover like its previous mission, but would not have an orbiter. Its propulsion module will be just like a communication relay satellite. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration until the spacecraft is in a 100 km lunar orbit. It weighs around 3900 kilograms.
It took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It will enter the Lunar Orbit on August 5, 2023, at 19:00 hrs IST. The Propulsion Module and the Vikram Lander on have successfully separated from each other. It has now entered the final leg of the journey.
After safe landing on the moon, its objective is to observe and demonstrate the rover’s loitering capabilities on the Moon. It will also help in scientific observation making scientific experiments on the chemical and natural elements, soil, water, etc. available on the surface of the Moon to better understand and practice the composition of the Moon.
Chandrayaan-3 landed successfully, surface of Moon on 23 August 2023 at around 18:00 IST. ISRO has also issued exact location of Pragyan Rover.
