Will Kangana Ranaut’s Film Emergency be Banned Due to Gurudwara Committee Demand

Actor and Politician Kangana Ranaut often remains in news headlines whether it is for receiving National Award of winning parliamentary election at Mandi Lok Sabha seat. Ranaut is also popular among media due to her fearless comments about many powerful people in Bollywood and Politics. From the long time, Kangana is working in a biographical political drama “Emergency” in which Kangana is playing the character of Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The film is set to release on September 6, 2024 while the trailer was released on 14 August 2024. But the release of the film fell in trouble when Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee and Akhal Takht applied for a ban on the film citing the film is hurting religious sentiments and try to character assassinate the community.

Press Conference

On Wednesday, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami held a press conference and said that there is a need of immediate ban on Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film as it misrepresents the Sikh community. He also said that members of the Sikh community should be included in the censor board so that the decision must not be biased. He also said that the community never forget the 1984 riot. He also said that film ruined the character of Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale who has been declared a Qaumi Shaheed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Akhal Takht head Gyani Raghbir Singh also supported his views.

About the film

The film headlines the time in which emergency was imposed in India in 1975. The actress had taled about the movie and said that the film witness the darkest times of India’s history, which almost burned down the Nation in lust for Power. The production of the film started in 2022 and it was slated to be released in October-November 2023 but was re-scheduled to 14 June 2024, and now it is scheduled to release on 6 September 2024. It is a Manikarnika Films production and is based on a screenplay by Ritesh Shah and the story written by Ranaut herself.
