About Pele
Pele was a retired professional player who plays for the Brazilian as forward. by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) he was voted as the World Player of the Century. In his career, he has scored 1281 goals in 1363 games which include the unofficial friendlies and tour games. After the football, he became the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. Later he was appointed as the Extraordinary Minister for Sport but he quit the post because of some allegation of a corruption scandal that stole $700,000 from UNICEF.
Early Life of Pele
He was a son of Fluminense footballer Dondinho and Celeste Arantes. His real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento which was named after the Thomas Edison but later his parents decided to remove 'i' from his name and called him, Edson. He got his nickname 'Pele' at his school but he described in his autobiography he and his friends still don't get the meaning of his name. In his early days, he grows up in the poverty and earns money by working in tea shops or as a servant. When he comes to mid teen then he starts playing the indoor football for the Radium team. The first competition which he played was Futebol de Salão (indoor football) and also won it.
Career of Pele
He first signed his professional contract with the Santos FC in June 1956. On 7 September 1956, he made his senior team debut against the Corinthians Santo Andre. He got his starting place in the first team in 1957 season and became the top scorer in the league. Later he joined the Brazilian national team professionally. With Santos in 1958, he won his first major title and as a top scorer, he finishes the game with 58 goals. He played in first 1958 FIFA World Cup, match against the USSR in the third match of the first round. He was the youngest player who was playing in the world cup.
Achievements of Pele
In 1999 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) he was selected as World Player of the Century and also by the International Olympic Committee he was called as the Athlete of the Century. For three years 1958, 1962 and 1970 he won the FIFA World Cups.
