Some Lesser Known Facts About Rosa Parks
- After separation of her parents, she moved to Pine Level, which was outside the state capital Montgomery. Here the law Jim Crow laws under white establishment were passed according to which the rules for black and white people were different. She belongs to the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
- She studies in the elementary school in Pine Level and there the school buses only used to take the white children where black children have come by walk to the school. At that time she thinks that 'I'd see the bus pass every day. But to me, that was a way of life; we had no choice but to accept what was the custom. The bus was among the first ways I realized there was a black world and a white world'.
- After her marriage, her husband encouraged her to continue her study which she left because of her ill grandmother. Later in 1943 she joined the Civil right Movement and became the secretary of the NAACP leader, E.D. Nixon.
- Once when she came into the bus and gave the fare then the bus driver James F. Blake told her to come back again on the bus from the back door according to the city rules. After when she moved out from the bus the driver drove the bus without taking her.
- She was arrested by the police because she was not leaving her seat for the white person who was standing on the bus from which she was going. The driver bus told her to move back and leave the seat for the white but she refused and the driver called the police and she got arrested but in evening she got the bail.
- On June 1999 she was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal which was presented by the Bill Clinton.
- She was the first lady whose statue was made in The Capitol's Statutory Hall.
