He became a pastor while he was in college. He served as a pastor in Baptist Church in Western Springs, Illinois from 1943 to 1944. In 1948, he became president of Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis. He conducted more than 400 crusades in 185 countries and territories on six continents in 1947.
