She put her steps in the acting industry in the 1950s and worked in a soap opera "The Brighter Day." She played Tootie Smith in the television series "Meet Me in St.Louis." She earned an Academy Award for portraying Helen Keller in the film "The Miracle Worker." She appeared as Cathy and Patty Lane in her show "The Patty Duke Show." She played the title character in the film "Me, Natalie."

Patty Duke was a very nice person! From having seen this very small 5'94-pound singer-actress dancer she was very pretty for such a tiny woman! And she deeply loved her family too! Patty could wear flowing long dresses nicely yet she could wear jeans-wearing pantyhose under her jeans without feeling like an "overstuffed meatball!" She was a great public speaker too but she was anorexic too! Yet how would you best describe Patty? I call "Snuggle Bunny" (me nickname for Patty) a "tweener." She was never radical like 5'7" Jane Fonda but while also not a true "Goody Two Shoes" type like 4'10" Cathy Rigby she had some Cathy Rigby in her. So while blood poisoning took Patty's life (and I was crushed over Patty's death) ALWAYS Patty Duke will be in my heart! Love you!
