She appeared in numerous films like "Shree 420". She showed her best quality performance in the film "Mother India". Just after the film she married Sunil Dutt and left the acting career. She appeared in only one film after her marriage which was "Raat Aur Din". She was also nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha but died in her tenure due to cancer.
