Griffiths hails from Thornaby town based in North Yorkshire, England. Born to Jane and Thomas, he had a poor family background. His father was a steelworker and occasionally used to fight in pubs for money. His mother was a bagger. Both of his parents were deaf and because of that, he learned British Sign Language. The actor was brought up as a Roman Catholic.
When he was a child he tried many times to run away from home. He also dropped out of school at the age of fifteen and started working as a porter for Littlewoods. The study was definitely in his fate as his boss ultimately convinced him to go back to school. After that, he enrolled himself in drama classes.

Career of Richard Griffiths
He was best remembered for his works in a theatre play The History Boys and playing Vernon Dursley in Harry Potter films. He was associated with the acting world through theatres where he has worked as an actor and sometimes manager. Richard made his screen debut in 1974 in a guest role on an episode of TV show Crown Court. His debut movie was It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet released in 1977 in which he played as Sam Broadbent. He was the well-respected contributor to the acting community had credits in various screen projects like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Private Peaceful and more.
