He was married to Ruth Austin in 1920 but got separated in 1923 after having one child. On 28 January 1927, he was married to Jobyna Ralston and also had one child with her. He took divorce from her on 4 September 1945 and marries Margaret Kinsella in 1946. He died on March 28, 1976, in Hollywood, California, the U.S. in the age of 76 due to Emphysema.
