He had founded a political party in Madurai called "Makkal Needhi Maiam". His party flag contains six joined hands in alternate red and white colors with a white star at its center in a black background behind the name of his party.

Career of Kamal Haasan
He worked in Tamil language film Kalathur Kannamma as a child artist. In the 70s, he returned to the films as a dance assistant. He appeared for a dance sequence in the film Maanavan. His first big role in the film Arangetram. His first lead role was in a Malayalam film, Kanyakumari. His first Kannada film was Kokila and appear with a starring role in it. He played a double role in Telugu film Sommokadidhi Sokkadidhi. His Hindi film debut was in the film "Ek Duuje Ke Liye" which was a remake of his own cross-cultural romantic "Maro Charithra". He is a director, producer, choreographer, screenwriter, and lyricist of the film Hey Ram which depicts the story of the partition of India and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Although the film does not work good in box-office but successful worldwide and was nominated for Academy Awards.
