Govinda is a renowned versatile actor of Indian film industry. Govinda is best known for his comedy and dance. He won 14 Awards and 26 nominations in his journey of three decades in Indian Cinema and journey is still continuing. His first release film was Ilzam(1986), was a hit. Same year he appeared in Tan Badan with Lead Role. His starting mostly movies were romantic, Family Drama, Action movies, but from Shoal aur Shabnam he established as comedian.

Govinda was born on 21 December 1963 as Govind Arun Ahuja in Virar, Maharashtra. He was the 6th and youngest child to former actor of 1940s Arun Kumar Ahuja and actress Nirmala Devi. As he was youngest after his four sisters and one brother he used to call chi chi (smallest finger in Punjabi). He completed his graduation in Commerce from and started struggling for movies as he had a filmy background. During his struggling period he joined Roshan Taneja School of Acting, Saroj Khan Dance classes. He circulated CDs of his dancing and acting to get work. One day his maternal uncle who was a producer watched his performance and cast him in Film Tan Badan which was first movie of Govinda in a lead role.

Govinda is son of former actor Arun Kumar Ahuja and actress Nirmala Devi. His father acted in more than 40 movies. In early 1950 his father produced a movie that was a big flop, which made them shifted from a bungalow on Mumbai Carter road to Virar-in Northen Mumbai. Govinda's birth took place in Virar. Govinda has four sisters and one brother. Govinda was married to his beloved Sunita in 1987 . Sunita was sister in law of Govinda's Maternal Uncle Anand Singh. They fell in love with each other and sum up at marriage. Couple has a son and a daughter.

Govinda's first released film was Ilzaam in 1986 that was a hit, than he appeared in Tan Badan in lead role. After this, he acted in no. of the film like Love 86, Khudgarz, Hatya, Dariya Dil, Jeete Hain Shan Se, Hum, Marte Dam Tak, Jung Baz, Taaquatwar and Gair that gave a mix response.
In 90?s Awaargi, Swarg, and Maha Sangram are successful . in 1990 Zulm Ki Hukumat, Shole Aur Shabnam, Aankhe, Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Sajan Chale Sasural, Banarsi Babu, Deewana Mastana, Hero No 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Haseena Maan Jayegi films were released. Govinda also sang some songs for his films like Meri Pant Bhi sexy, Gori Gori etc.
Up to now, Govinda acted in more than 160 movies among them film Partner is Govinda's the biggest success.
Singer: Govinda showed his talent in Singing as well as in acting. He sang songs for many of his movies and also launched two music album Govinda(1998), Gori Tere Naina(2013).

Politician: Govinda also worked as a politician for Indian National Congress. He was elected as the seventh Member of Parliament for the Mumbai North Constituency of Maharashtra, 2004 after defeating Ram Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2009 he left politics to concentrate more on films.
Producer: Govinda produced a movie Abhinay Chakra in which he himself is in lead role. Abhinay Chakra is going to be released in 2016.
