About Danny Aiello
Danny Aiello was born in Manhattan, New York, U.S. on June 20, 1933. He is an American actor. He was from very poor family his father was a laborer and they were six brothers and sister. His father left them and his mother gone blind.
When he was 16, he told a lie about his age for getting selected in U.S. Army after working there for three years, he returned to New York did a job to support his family.
He had also worked as a union representative for Greyhound Bus workers and as a nightclub bouncer at the legendary New York comedy club named The Improv. His son Danny Aiello III died in 2010 due to cancer but Rick, Jaime, and Stacey Aiello are his surviving children
Career of Danny Aiello
In early 1970 he got a chance in the films Bang the Drum Slowly in 1973, he played a baseball player the the movie. He had a small role in The Godfather Part II in 1974. He had co-starred the role in the film Defiance with Jan Michael Vincent. He gets success from Fort Apache, The Bronx in 1981. For ABC Afterschool Special called A Family of Strangers. He won Daytime Emmy Award.
In the film Once Upon a Time in America, he was a police chief whose name was same as his surname that is Aiello. His most popular role was pizzeria owner Sal in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing in 1989.
He wrote a crucial scene which he discussed with John Turturro 10 minutes before its production, with this role he got one Golden Globe Award nomination, second Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and also critics Award for Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. He got famous from romantic comedy film Moonstruck and he has also done comedy in drag. In the horror film Jacob's Ladder and the comedy film 29th Street he had a sympathetic role. In 2012 independent film Dolly Baby he had the starring role.
Besides acting, he is also a good singer and sung in films like Hudson Hawk (1991), Once Around (1991), and Remedy in which his son Ricky Aiello had a starring role. In 1986 the title character of Madonna's song "Papa Don't Preach" was Danny Aiello. After that he recorded answer song "Papa Wants the Best for You".
He also worked in theatre in Gemini, The Floating Light Bulb, Hurlyburly, and The House of Blue Leaves and also his play Shoemaker was the drama version of his film The Broken Soul.
