About Tipu Sultan
Studying Indian History is incomplete if you have not read about the Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan. No Doubt, he was a great warrior who gave his life while fighting against the British East India Company. He succeeded Hyder Ali who was himself a strong warrior. He held the Kingdom of Mysore from 1782 until his death in 1799 while defending his hold on Seringapatam.
Career of Tipu Sultan
He was crowned as king after his father's death. Tipu is famous for the Anglo-Mysore Wars like the Battle of Pollilur and the Siege of Srirangapatna. He was an influential ruler who initiated a new calendar, and coinage system. He also introduced a new land revenue system that helped grow the Mysore silk industry.
