- In his early age, he has an interest in mechanical things and joins the mechanical engineering but later his interest get developed in becoming a pilot so he dropped out from the college and join the Nebraska Aircraft Corporation's flying school in Lincoln.

- He was the first pilot who drives the plane from New York to Paris across the Atlantic ocean in 1927. He covered around 3,600 statute miles (5,800 km) in 33 and a half hour in a single engine purpose-built named monoplane named Spirit of St. Louis.
