About The Twin Monastery of Wearmouth Jarrow
The Twin Monastery of Wearmouth Jarrow as the name suggests was a double monastery located in the Kingdom of Northumbria, England. It was founded by St.Peter on the River wear in 674-5 AD and got the name of the double monastery with the foundation of St.Paul's Jarrow in 684-5 on the River Tyne. It became a center of Anglo-Saxon learning. It was looted by Viking raiders and the abbey was shut down in the ninth century.

- After it gets abundant, it was re-established in the 14th century but was dissolved in 1536 under the order of Henry VIII.
- Some of the popular manuscripts like Codex Amiatinus, Saint Petersburg Bede, St Cuthbert Gospel, and Moore Bede are written in the Abbey.
- The abbey is a burial ground for noted people like Eosterwine, Sigfrith, and Benedict Biscop.
- The masons to manufacture the stone buildings of the abbey were brought from Francia as it was one of the first stone buildings in England. The glassmakers were also from Grancia. Seventh and Eighth-century glass was found during the excavation of the buildings.
